The Township of Oro-Medonte held a meeting on Thursday night to update residents on the impact of the 2015 Pan Am Games this summer.

The township will host thousands of people for the mountain bike competition at Hardwood Ski and Bike.

Representatives from the games organizing committee, the Ministry of Transportation and the township were updating residents on major road closures that will take effect around the venue.

More than 30 athletes and as many as 5,000 people, including coaches, officials and spectators, are expected to be in the area during the competition.

“A section of Old Barrie Road will be closes, that’s a busy through-fare for people getting to and from Barrie and Orillia, so we want to make sure that people have the opportunity to get the information that they need so they can make the necessary plans,” said Roz Llewellyn, Oro-Medonte Co-Ordinator of Community Recreation.

There will be road closures a week before the event while athletes train.

Spectators will park at the Oro World’s Fair grounds and shuttle buses will take people to and from Hardwood.

The mountain bike competition will happen on July 12th.
