A special events permit has been approved for the next Burl’s Creek event, the Boots and Hearts Festival.

During a special meeting in Oro-Medonte on Tuesday afternoon, the township voted five to one in favour of a permit that will allow Burl’s Creek to host Boots and Hearts on 92 acres of land.

However, the township voted unanimously in-favour of not allowing a special events permit for the more than 400 acres of land that is currently zoned for agricultural use.

These are the same permits and restrictions that were in place for the WayHome Music and Arts Festival, which attracted over 35,000 people to the event park.

The meeting was also an opportunity for Oro-Medonte residents to once again voice their concerns about both music festivals. Some residents spoke about the loudness of the concert and concert goers bathing in Lake Simcoe.

The township says they plan to work with festival organizers to address those concerns.

Boots and Hearts is expected to draw tens of thousands of people on Aug. 6.
