Provincial police are investigating the death of an Orillia woman after she was assaulted in May.

According to OPP, an 88-year-old woman was assaulted at a home on Museum Drive in Orillia by another woman in her 80s on May 24. The victim was seriously injured.

Police say the woman died on Saturday. An autopsy has since been done and forensic investigators say the death was a result of complications caused by the assault.

The Orillia OPP Crime Unit and the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch is now conducting an investigation. The Ministry of Health and Long Term is also involved and the investigation is ongoing.
