Police in Orillia have sent out a warning about what appears to be a phone scam, in which the caller threatens to cut off people’s electricity.

OPP say the caller claims to be someone with the “collections agency” for Orillia Power.

They say the caller states that people have half an hour to call them back at a 1-800 number, or their power will be disconnected.

The caller has also been asking for credit card information, or telling people they can pay by money order.

Police say if anyone receives a call like this, do not give out any personal information and do not send out any money.

Contact Orillia OPP if you’ve received a fraudulent call of this nature.
