A week after a burned out Jeep was removed from the ice of Lake Simcoe, OPP have charged the owner for allegedly fabricating the story.

Police have charged the 19-year-old Orillia man with public mischief after they say he lied about his Jeep being stolen.

OPP were contacted on Feb. 9 by the owner, who claimed his Jeep was stolen from his driveway. Nearly a month later, the vehicle was discovered torched on the ice on Lake Simcoe, near Line 14 in Oro-Medonte.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on April 28.
