A 37-year-old Orangeville man is facing several charges after police say he tried to steal a TV on Thursday night.
Orangeville Police say the man left the Wal-Mart at around 8:00 p.m. with ashopping cart carrying a 40” television that he made no effort to pay for.
A theft detection device attached to the TV set off the store’s security alarm.
The suspect was chased by several citizens from the Wal-Mart to a nearby theatre where he left the shopping cart and continued to run.
One citizen attempted to tackle the suspect, butafter a brief struggle, was unsuccessful.
Police say the suspect then ran into the parking lot of a nearby gym and attempted to hide under a vehicle.
Citizens followed the suspect and directed police to his location where he was arrested.
