People came together in Orangeville yesterday to raise money for a new tribute to Canadian veterans past and present.

An old park in the town, Mill Park, is going to be upgraded and renamed Bravery Park. It was all the idea of Valerie McGrady, whose son Corporal Matthew McCully died in Afghanistan.

Last night, Orangeville restaurants came together to serve a six-course picnic and raise money toward a $300,000 goal. The new park will include a Monument of Courage, a fountain, a gazebo, a children's area, a labyrinth, murals and gardens.

Town officials say they're excited that the park, which has fallen to the wayside in recent years, will be seeing a rebirth.

Along with money raised in the community, organizers have received a federal grant and are going to apply for a provincial grant.  The goal is to have a ground-breaking next spring.
