June was a deadly month on OPP-patrolled roads across the province.

According to police, 27 people died in 23 crashes between June 1 and June 27. Four of those collisions involved double fatalities and one resulted in the deaths of two motorcyclists.

“These senseless road deaths are revealing the same causal factors over and over again. Until all drivers stop speeding, driving impaired or distracted and ensure that everyone in their vehicle is buckled in, history will continue to repeat itself and innocent people will continue to die on our roads,” said OPP Deputy Commissioner Brad Blair in a statement.

With summer in full swing, OPP are urging drivers to be vigilant and to obey the rules of the road. Passengers are also being encouraged to speak up if someone is getting behind the wheel while impaired or if the driver is distracted.

So far this year there have been 124 deaths on OPP-patrolled roads.
