Ontario's elementary school teachers are signalling that talks with the province are at an impasse, setting the stage for a potential strike.

News that the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario asked for a "no board report" today comes as one high school board east of Toronto could see a strike Monday.

The Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation has threatened to withdraw services at seven school boards, starting with Durham as early as Monday if they are not close to a deal by the end of the weekend.

The elementary teachers applied for conciliation in late March after it said the government refused to remove demands for concessions that would strip collective agreements.

The union says in a statement today that the government does not appear to be "serious" and is "provoking a crisis."

They say it may take several days for the no board report to be issued, but once it is the union would be in a legal strike position 17 days later.
