A man wanted after a fatal shooting 10 years ago in Halifax has been arrested in Alliston.

The 31-year-old Shilo Marcino Beals was arrested Wednesday morning at a home on Highway 89 when OPP say they executed a warrant.

Beals is accused of murdering a 28-year-old father of two in Halifax in July of 2004. Beals allegedly shot and killed the man in front of a house in downtown Halifax.

A Canada-wide warrant has been out for Beals for the past month, and police say they received word Beals was in this area about a week ago.

Police arrived at the house where he was staying at 3 am, and were able to identify the suspect by his tattoos. Beals then surrendered and was arrested.

Police can’t say how long Beals has been in our area for. The homeowners are not facing charges.

Beals will stay at the Penetangishene jail until Halifax regional police pick him up.

“We will have officers from integrated crime division going to Ontario in the coming day and they will bring Mr. Beals back to Halifax to answer to the charges," says Halifax Regional Police Constable Pierre Bourdages .

Beals is facing a first-degree murder charge, and six weapons related offences related to the murder.
