The town of Newmarket is opening up a new venue for fans to cheer on two local athletes at the Sochi Olympics.

The ice lounge is the town’s newest outdoor living room where people are encouraged to ‘catch a fever.’

“We are going to have Olympic fever – so it’s going to be Olympics all the time. It’s trendy, it’s new, it’s progressive, it’s all things that Newmarket truly is,” says Stephanie Dyriw with the Town of Newmarket.

Located at the Riverwalk Commons – the ice lounge comes complete with a giant flat screen TV and comfy seating for 20 or cozy seating for 40.

The ice lounge is open from 9 a.m. till 11 p.m. for Olympic viewing and Colin Service says his family already loves it.

“I’ve never watched the Olympics outside – it just feels right!”

Josh Gottlieb says he’s one proud Canadian who is keeping his ‘feeler’s warm and so far he’s winning the game against the cold of winter.

“Not too bad except my cheeks where my beard can’t grow – everything else is pretty warm.”

John Taylor says the ice lounge reminds him of another patriotic moment he enjoyed four years ago.

“I had the opportunity to be at the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver and I have to tell you that was the greatest moment in my life as a Canadian.”

And some great Canadians from the Newmarket area are participating in the Sochi Games – including Gabrielle Daleman and James McNaughton.

“We’re really excited – we did have a chance to meet with Gabby and of course we are Twittering back and forth and we’d like to get everyone to follow…go Gabby go!” says Newmarket Mayor Tony Van Bynen.
