The cast of the new production of Broadway musical Hair will sing their first official notes in Orillia this year.

The Orillia Opera House is currently hosting the cast and creative team as they work through two weeks of final rehearsals before the tour beings. And it will start with a two-night engagement later this month in Orillia.

Hair’s opening night is Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. at the Gordon Lightfoot Auditorium. The show returns to the stage in Orillia Jan. 25 at 8 p.m., before heading off on a North American tour that ends May 11.

“This is an excellent opportunity for (Orillia residents) to see this production before it goes on tour and proves that the Orillia Opera House is a valuable professional performing arts facility,” Opera House general manager Krista Storey says in a news release.

Hair officially opened on Broadway in April 1968 and ran for 1,750 performances. It has been revived a number of times, including a Tony-award-winning version in 2009.

The 2014 version has been updated with new songs, the Opera House says.
