A fire in Port McNicoll last night caused an estimated $20-thousand in damage but it could've been much worse if it wasn't for the actions of a quick thinking neighbor.
The fire broke out in the basement of a home on Bell Street in port McNicoll just after 9pm. All three people in the house got outside and are okay.
The Tay Township fire department says a neighbor sprang into action and helped put most of it out before fire crews arrived.
The chief says the fire was caused by an electrical problem in a power cord which sparked and set a couch on fire as well.
The fire chief says the home is too damaged for the owner to remain at home.
