It came down to the last poll, but the new riding of Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte has gone blue.

Alex Nuttall of the Conservatives was declared the winner of the riding early Tuesday morning by CTV News. Nuttall defeated five other candidates, including Liberal Brian Tamblyn and NDP candidate Ellen White.

Of the 13 ridings in our region, Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte was down to the wire. Nuttall inched out Tamblyn by only 110 votes according to the unofficial results.

Nuttall served as city councillor for Barrie’s Ward 10 for six years. He didn’t seek re-election in the 2014 municipal election.

The riding was created during the federal electoral redistribution of 2012, which split the riding of Barrie to accommodate the growing population in the area.

Prior to the split, Patrick Brown held the seat for the Conservatives, before he stepped down after winning the Progressive Conservative leadership.

It's unclear if a recount will be called.
