Hundreds of students at Georgian College spent Saturday moving into their new homes for the school year.

The college held its annual move-in day on Saturday meaning the campus was full of both excited and nervous students.

Ashley Pratt was moving into her home at the college with her mom by her side.

“I’m really, really happy for her, very proud of her and I know she’ll do well. She’s pretty confident and independent,” said Ashley’s mom Lori.

More than 500 students moved into the residence at Georgian College in Barrie on Saturday.

“Well I’m excited because it’s definitely a new start for me and I don’t know, I’m really excited to meet new people and just going to have fun,” says Kayla Wainmen.

Courtney Punys admits she had butterflies in her stomach on Saturday.

“Well I’m excited for school, that I get to focus on something I actually want to do so I’ll be really excited and then just live on my own, cook and clean – it’s different living without my parents.”

The return of school means the return of student’s off-campus as well. Barrie’s north end has been busy all weekend but there were still a lot of sings saying rooms available. People we spoke to were happy the move was done.

“My desk was a little bit tricky, little bit wider than the doors but not that big of a problem,” says Curtis McCarthy.

Students moving into residence at Georgian College pay just under $6,500 a year – that includes everything but food.

Students going to the Orillia campus of Georgian College will move into residence on Monday, September 1st, 2014.
