A retired York Regional Police officer is facing five additional charges in relation to alleged sexual assaults.
The investigation began in November, when officers received a report that a young child had been sexually assaulted on Oct. 30, 2015.
Police arrested Donald Clark, 65, on Nov. 10 and charged him with one count of sexual assault and one count of sexual interference.
Following the arrest, two additional victims came forward and reported alleged sexual assaults dating back to 1967 and 1970. A third victim reported another incident in 1996.
According to investigators, each victim was under the age of 16 at the time of the alleged offence.
“The accused (allegedly) interacted with victims prior to becoming a police officer, during his career and following his retirement as an officer,” police said in a news release Wednesday.
As a result of the complaints, the accused Donald Clark faces five additional charges, including two counts of gross indecency, one count of sexual exploitation, one count of sexual assault and one count of sexual intercourse with a female under 14.
Clark was a York Regional Police officer between 1974 and 2006. Starting in 2007, Clark was employed part time on a retiree contract, but his employment contract was terminated in November.
“We are extremely disappointed that someone who had taken an oath to protect our community is charged with such serious criminal offences,” York Regional Police Chief Eric Jolliffe said in a separate news release Wednesday.
Investigators want to ensure that there are no further victims and have released several photos of the accused over the decades.
Clark was expected to appear in a Newmarket court on Wednesday.
