A 33-year-old woman had to be airlifted to a Toronto area hospital after she was struck by a vehicle in Orangeville Wednesday afternoon.

It happened around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Manor Crescent and Diane Drive.

Police say after stopping at Manor Crescent, the 80-year-old man driving the vehicle proceeded and hit the woman who had begun to cross the street in front of him.

The woman was hit and pinned under the front end of the car as it continued travelling approximately 75 feet until witnesses alerted the driver.

Witnesses and emergency crews freed the woman and she was then taken to hospital in Orangeville and subsequently airlifted to Toronto. Her injuries were not immediately known Wednesday evening.

Police say charges are pending.
