A sharp cold front will bring very strong southwesterly winds on Monday afternoon and evening.

Sustained wind speeds of 60 to 70 km/h with frequent gusts of 90 to 100 km/h are expected.

Severe wind warnings are in effect for the following areas around our region:

  • Dufferin County including Shelburne and Mansfield
  • Grey County including Dundalk, Owen Sound, and Blue Mountains
  • Bruce County including Kincardine

These winds will be strong enough to cause some tree damage, with a few power outages possible as a result.

The strong and gusty winds will also result in difficult driving conditions, especially on highways exposed to strong cross winds.

There are also snow squall watches in effect for the following areas around our region:

  • Midland, Coldwater, Orr Lake
  • Port Carling, Parry Sound, Rosseau
  • Dunchurch

Flurries and local snow squalls are expected to develop Tuesday morning and shift southwards during the day.

Those areas can expect 10 to 15 cm of snow, with significantly reduced visibilities.

Hydro One says high winds have knocked power out to more than 37,000 people throughout the province.

There are approximately 5,000 people without power in the Elmvale area now.
