Barrie police say two people wanted in connection to a gunpoint abduction have been arrested.

Investigators say they made the arrest on Saturday afternoon in Springwater Township with the help of the OPP. The victim, a young woman believed to be under the age of 18, was found safe.

"I was shocked. I don't believe this is happening in downtown Barrie at 11 o’clock in the morning," says Charlie Robev of Chavo Crepes.

According to police, the abduction happened around 11:50 a.m. near Metzger Studio on Dunlop Street East. A man allegedly exited a Dodge Magnum with a black gun in hand.

"He placed it on the roof of that vehicle, with the barrel pointing at the female victim," says Barrie police Const. Angela Butler.

Police say the man then made numerous demands for the woman to get in the car. She complied and the car took off.

A customer inside of Chavo Crepes witnessed the abduction from the restaurant’s patio. Police say it was the information from witnesses that led to the arrests.

"It all started with our witnesses calling in and what they saw and what scared them. We had no clue who this female was, who the male driver was, and the female passenger, we just didn’t' know," Butler says.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are expected to be officially laid sometime this weekend.
