A family is homeless after fire reduced their two-storey house to the ground.

Innisfil firefighters rushed to the home on Gilford Road, near Woodfield Road after receiving reports from a driver who spotted flames coming from the roof. This was at around 12:32 p.m.

Despite their best efforts to extinguish the fire, the home was reduced to ash and splinters. The house is considered a complete loss.

“The flames were already through the roof when the call came in. There was very little we could do,” says Innisfil deputy fire chief Tom Raeburn.

Dozens of firefighters remain at the scene, as they continue to put out hotspots. Once they have things under control, they will look for a possible cause.

“With this heavy loss I’m not sure what we’re going to find. Once we speak to the owner, we’ll know more.”

Firefighters are expected to be at the scene for most of the night.
