The OPP are investigating after a rifle was donated to a thrift store in Meaford.

Police say a bolt action rifle, incapable of being fired, was donated to the Cat’s Meow on Sykes Street north on Saturday morning.

The fire arm, which had ‘G.R.B.S.A., C.O. 1916, 40 SHT LE and III’ stamped on it was discovered at the front door of the business by an employee. The firearm was turned over to police for destruction.

The Cat’s Meow typically accepts donations of all kinds for resale; proceeds of which go towards supporting humane treatment of cats.

Anyone who know anything about this firearm is asked to call police.
