The Ontario government has announced more than 200 new licensed childcare spaces in Simcoe County and York Region.

The associate minister of education visited Chris Hadfield Public School in Bradford on Thursday, where 49 of those new spaces will be opened up for infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers.

Another 49 will be opened at St. Bernard Catholic School in Orillia, 39 at St. Mary's Catholic School in Hunstville, 49 at a school in Vaughan and 25 at a school in Markham.

The province has promised a total of 100,000 new licensed childcare spaces across Ontario over the next few years.
