A patient that was transferred from Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto on Saturday night has tested negative for Ebola.
The patient had returned to Canada from West Africa about 10 days ago and was put into isolation as a precaution when symptoms began to appear.
The individual was originally transferred to RVH with flu-like symptoms by paramedics in full protective gear, where he was treated by a specialized emergency response team in a negative pressure room.
The hospital says at no point did the patient enter the emergency department triage or waiting room. RVH later transferred the "low-risk" patient to Sunnybrook for testing. On Sunday, Sunnybrook spokesperson Craig DuHamel said the patient's blood test results came back with no trace of Ebola.
Doctors say the patient was kept in isolation while the blood test was conducted and the results came back.
According to Ontario's Ministry of Health, this is the 16th person tested for Ebola.
