The Canadian National Pond Hockey Tournament is back in Huntsville at the Deerhurst Resort.

This is the 10th year for the eventand players are more enthusiastic than ever.

“It's not too often you can head out on an outdoor rink, organized like this, and really get everyone together,” said Spencer Segula from Parry Sound.

“It’s bigger than last year by about 52 teams,” said organizer Neil Lumdsen. “We have six players a team and we have about 80 teams this weekend. We`ll have almost 140 next weekend, maybe even more.”

Lumdsen says people come from far away to enjoy the tournament.

“This year we've got Newfoundland, the guys that have been coming forever, they love it; Chicago, down in Buffalo, Detroit, certainly eastern Canada that I mentioned. It really is a bit of a pilgrimage, it’s kind of fun.”

Terry Yetman and his team have been coming from Newfoundland for the last nine years.

“We have a lot of fun. We used to live in Kitchener so we used to come up then, and then a lot of us moved back to Newfoundland and we just kept coming.”

This is one of two weekends that the tournament runs, and next weekend the master division will hit the ice.
