A Barrie man has been charged in connection to a collision that killed a pedestrian in December.

On Friday, Barrie police arrested and charged the 32-year-old with dangerous driving causing death. The charges come after investigators say they spent the last two months speaking with witnesses and collecting surveillance video.

The collision happened on Dec. 8, in the area of Dunlop Street and Hart Drive, at around 8:40 a.m.

Investigators previously said an eastbound vehicle was waiting to turn left into a plaza, when the light turned yellow. That’s when police say the vehicle and a westbound SUV entered the intersection – causing the driver of the SUV to swerve and hit a 63-year-old woman. The accused was driving the SUV.

The woman was taken to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre and was later transported to a Toronto hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The accused was released on a promise to appear in court in March.
