An early-morning fire was caused by a cooking accident, Orillia’s deputy fire chief says.

Jeff Kirk tells CTV News a person was using oil in a pot to cook fries in the middle of the night and fell asleep.

Fire crews responded to a fire at the house about 3:30 a.m. The person was taken to hospital in Orillia for smoke inhalation.

Damage is estimated at between $20,000 and $30,000.
