A 55-year-old Orangeville man is facing several charges including impaired driving, after a hit and run Wednesday night.

Orangeville Police received a call around 6:00 p.m. from a witness, who reportedly saw a pick-up collided into the rear of another vehicle at the intersection of Highway 10 and County Road 109.

Police say the pick-up truck fled from the scene, but the witness followed the pick-up truck into Orangeville, eventually helping responding officers locate the truck and its driver.

Police arrested and charged the driver with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood, driving while disqualified and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

“This is another example of a citizen helping to the impaired drivers off of our roads; we value the assistance from the public,” said Orangeville Police Chief Joe Tomei.

The driver is schedule to appear in an Orangeville court in September.
