A 41-year-old Caledon man has been charged in connection with a theft that happened nearly five years ago.

On August 31st, 2009, a house under construction on Finnerty Side Road was broken into and $50,000 worth of appliances was stolen. The home was also heavily damaged.

During the investigation, OPP officers say they seized a pop can and water bottle from the scene for DNA analysis. The samples were collected and sent to the Centre for Forensic Sciences.

Since then the suspect was arrested in another region and was ordered to provide a DNA sample. Police say they were able to make a match between the two DNA samples.

The man has been charged with break and enter and mischief over $5,000. He was released and will be back in court in Orangeville in September.
