Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a house fire on Friday afternoon in Orillia.

Fire crews were called to Westmount Drive after receiving reports of thick black smoke and flames coming from the rear of the house.

Town officials say firefighters had to force their way into the home to extinguish the blaze. Fire chief Ralph Dominelli says there were large flames in the kitchen.

No one was home at the time and no injuries are reported.

An investigation is underway to determine a cause and damage estimate.
