A 37-year-old man is facing numerous assault and threatening charges related to two children.

The man is the boyfriend of the mother of the children, which are 13-year-old boy and 11-year-old girl.

Through their investigation, Barrie Police gathered enough information to obtain an arrest warrant which was executed early Friday morning in the city’s east end.

Police say the Tactical Support Unit was brought in due to the lengthy violent crime history of the man.

The man was arrested without incident but one officer was injured after being bitten by a large Rottweiler dog in the home. He was treated and released.

The man is charged with six counts of assault and two counts of uttering threats to cause bodily harm.

He is being held in custody while awaiting a bail hearing.
