A London man has been charged after allegedly writing bad cheques to purchase cows in Cookstown.

According to South Simcoe Police, the 43-year-old issued a postdated cheque to purchase $33,000 worth of cattle at the Cookstown business in February. However, when the business went to cash the cheque they were told there were insufficient funds.

Police say the business made several attempts to get payment for the cows and were given more postdated cheques, which turned out to be bad.

Investigators claim the accused never had enough money in his bank account to make good on the purchase.

On Friday, the London man was arrested and charged with false pretenses for each cheque written. The accused will appear before a court in October.
