Doug Jure resigned from the Barrie Police Services Board on Wednesday, just two days after losing his for Barrie City Council.

Jure, who lost to Mike McCann for Ward 10 Councillor on Monday, had been a member of the Police Services Board since 2007 and was the Chair for the last four years.

In a statement, Jure explained his appointment by the Ontario Cabinet expires June of 2015 and felt it was an appropriate time to resign as the Police Services Board and Barrie Police Association begin negotiations for a renewed collective agreement in 2015.

“During his tenure as the Chair of the Barrie Police Services Board, Mr. Jure has displayed outstanding qualities. The service has greatly valued his service and input,” said Barrie Police Chief Kimberley Greenwood in a release.

Until a new chair is chosen, vice-chair James Dickie will assume the chair’s position.

The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services is calling for applicants to fill the open position on the Police Services Board and the Chair will be chosen by the Board members in the New Year.
