A teenager has been arrested in connection to an online threat that locked all schools throughout Muskoka, Haliburton and Kawartha Lakes.

The unknown threat was made via a tweet Friday at around 9 a.m. to the Trillium Lakelands District School Board’s Twitter account.

Officials with the board didn’t provide details to what the threat contained; only saying it was “generalized.”

As a precaution, the OPP issued a hold and secure at 42 elementary schools and seven secondary schools throughout the board. Just after 11 a.m., police made an arrest and lifted the hold and secure.

The OPP allege a 16-year-old Gravenhurst boy was behind the threat. He is now in police custody.

The investigation is ongoing, but police say there is no threat to school safety.
