Highway 11 has reopened after being shut down for the removal of a bridge overnight.

Provincial police say the highway reopened just after 9 a.m. on Sunday after crews finished demolishing the old Highway 400 bridge. Removal of the bridge started at 11 p.m. on Saturday.

Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation says several large pieces of equipment were used to remove the bridge.

There were a number of overnight detours in place to reroute traffic going both north and south on Highway 11.

A new bridge opened in October after more than two years of construction. The cost of the entire project is roughly $8.5 million.
