Investigators are searching for the cause of a fire that destroyed a Caledon home on Monday morning.

Crews were called to Heart Lake Road just before 6:30 a.m. where they found a house engulfed in flames.

A search was immediately conducted for the residents, and it was later determined that they were not home at the time.

One firefighter was treated by paramedics at the scene for heat exhaustion. The firefighter is listed in stable condition.

The fire is now out and the search is on to determine a cause. Officials are looking at lightning as a potential cause.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been contacted and will likely assist with the investigation.

Damage is estimated at $500,000.
