A Midland family has been displaced after flames from a barbecue fire spread to their home.

The fire happened at a home on Frazer Drive just before 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. According to Midland fire chief Paul Ryan, the blaze started in the barbecue, but quickly jumped to the back of the house.

“The family heard a noise and saw the back of their house on fire,” Ryan says.

The family was able to get out safely after the fire got into the roof and attic.  There is extensive smoke and water damage to the rest of the home.

Damage is estimated at $125,000.
