A fire that ripped through an abandoned house in Owen Sound on Monday morning is being treated as suspicious.

Owen Sound firefighters were called to the home on 6th Avenue East at 4 a.m., where they found the two-storey house engulfed in flames.

Firefighters entered the house to do a search, but had to leave because the flames were too intense.

“They were able to get in on the first floor and they did the primary search and by that time they had to bail out,” says Owen Sound fire chief Doug Barfoot. “The back half of the building was fully involved.”

An aerial truck was used to help fight the fire, which has since been deemed suspicious. No injuries are reported.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been contacted to assist in the investigation.
