A 35-year-old Ottawa man is facing charges after he allegedly left his two young daughters in a hot car in the parking lot of a Vaughan shopping centre.

York Regional Police say they received a call from a concerned citizen at around 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday about two children who had been left unattended in a hot car near Highway 27, north of Highway 7.

The caller said they had removed the children from the vehicle and brought them to a nearby fitness centre to contact police.

The three-year-old girl and her six-year-old sister were assessed by paramedics at the scene and their father was arrested and charged under the Child and Family Services Act.
