A Canada Post employee is refusing to deliver mail to 32 mailboxes in the Tottenham area, because she is concerned for her safety.

She says she won’t deliver mail on Tottenham Road or the 10th Sideroad.

There have been two fatal crashes on those roads in the past two weeks.

A representative from Canada Post says the letter carrier didn’t think it was possible to stop safely because of fast truck traffic, so she filed a refusal to work notice.

Resident Jasmin Orobetz has lived on the 10th Sideroad for 10 years says she also fears for her safety when walking along the road.

"I got a call from my neighbor saying he got a call from the post office and our mail is not being delivered anymore because of the danger,” said Orobetz. “I feel for the mail carriers because if it was me delivering the mail... I fear for danger on the roads here.”

A representative for Canada Post tells CTV News they did a safety check on Tottenham Road, and have deemed that one mailbox needs to be moved.

The post office says other than that, the road has been deemed safe.

Canada Post says it is still conducting safety checks on a 10 kilometer stretch of the 10th Sideroad, which their employee has raised concerns about.
