The Barrie Police Service is asking citizens of Barrie to be vigilant after shootings in Ottawa on Wednesday morning.

In a statement released on the Barrie Police website, Chief Kimberley Greenwood said “There is no identified threat to our community. However in light of these recent tragic events we can assure our community that Barrie Police Service will be highly visible within our city and public areas. Barrie Police Service remains committed to the citizens of Barrie and the community; the safety of everyone is of paramount priority.”

Greenwood says the police force is asking the citizens to call police if they witness suspicious activities.

Ottawa police received multiple 911 calls around 9:52 a.m. Wednesday about a shooting at the National War Memorial.

The soldier who was standing guard at the memorial was shot and later died.

A gunman then entered Parliament, where dozens of shots rang out. The gunman died, but Ottawa Police and the RCMP would not confirm that the same person was responsible for both the War Memorial and Parliament shootings.
