Barrie residents now have a new way of reporting minor crimes without ever having to leave their home.

No longer do victims of mischief, vandalism or theft under $5,000 need to call police to report a crime. A link on is now available on the Barrie Police to their new “COPLOGIC” system which will walk a person reporting a crime through the process any time of day.

“There’s certain criteria that you have to meet; like it’s not an emergency, there are no suspects, that sort of thing,” says Barrie Police Constable Angela Butler.

The web tool means no more long waits to speak with an officer.

“Instead of waiting hours for an officer to come to your house, if we are really busy or having to come into the station you can sit in your home, log in and report it,” added Butler.

Once an online police report is filled out, a case number will be given and an officer will review your file. If it needs to be investigated further, an officer will be dispatched but police say about 20% of calls they receive could be filed online. And having this tool will help make police more efficient, saving time and money.
