A kind gesture on Thursday on a Facebook group exploded into a big ‘pay it forward” movement.

Dani Robinson started ‘Barrie Moms Everything swamp and buy’ four years ago to help moms and entrepreneurs. But on Thursday morning that page turned into something completely different.

“There was post after post, pay it forward,” says Robinson. “I saw all these little mom-preneurs offering up different services and free items.”

The pay it forward movement on her Facebook page all started with Peter Johnson. He had been given concert tickets that he couldn’t use so in the spirit of Christmas he put them on the site and offered them for free.

“Because I can’t use them anyway, we run a ‘DD’ service, work seven days a week because we just started out a year ago so I just thought why not give the tickets away.”

Johnson says someone else on the site made a comment that whoever received the tickets should pay it forward. That action then spiraled, nearly 48 hours later the movement is still going strong. The site now has over 500 pay if forward posts.

“It’s pretty crazy, it’s kind of awesome how everybody’s helping everybody out, hopefully it keeps going,” added Johnson.

People are offering everything from hand knitted items, to baked goods, even gift cards ready to be handed over to someone else.

Amanda Campbell uses the site often and couldn’t believe what she saw.

“It’s overwhelming; the amount of response people have given, this community, Barrie has been unbelievable today.”

Campbell was so impressed; she got her mother involved who offered a $200 gift card to her picture framing shop.

“I’m hoping that somebody’s going to get something framed and give it as a gift to someone else," says Barb Campbell.

The site has more than 11,000 members, all who have been inspired to pay it forward.
