A 29-year-old mother of three has been charged by Barrie Police for being intoxicated in a public place on Wednesday afternoon.

Police say they received numerous calls that two drunk women were in the area of Big Bay Point Road and Leggot Avenue around 4:30 p.m. and were attempting to load three kids into a vehicle.

Bystanders blocked the women from putting the children into the vehicle and also ensured they didn’t get into the vehicle either.

When police arrived they determined both the mother and grandmother were intoxicated.

The mother was charged with being intoxicated in a public place and the kids were picked up by a sober relative.

The Children’s Aid Society was notified of the incident.

Barrie Police tell CTV News that the grandmother isn't facing any charges.
