25-year-old Barrie artist Jeff Taylor is getting a lot of attention for his unique tree carvings.

Taylor has created hundreds of pieces since he started working with wood when he was 17, and he says he loves how creative he can be with the medium.

“A teacher of mine at Eastview brought in an electric chainsaw and log and told me to make whatever I wanted. So I carved a cougar leaping off a road. And I kept going,” says Taylor. “The possibilities are endless. You can carve anything you want in any piece of wood and it's just a good feeling to create something.”

Taylor has created hundreds of sculptures out of wood including an octopus, a seahorse, and an owl.

He even made an eight foot tall spine for a local chiropractor.

“The scale of it and everything is bang on,” said Dr. Matthew Ostrowski from Balance Chiropractic.

Taylor doesn’t struggle to find inspiration in his surroundings.

“I have 10 different carvings in my head that I can't wait to start and even when I'm carving I'm thinking of another one. I don't have time for all of the ideas.”
