People in Angus are still rebuilding their community, four months after a tornado ripped through.

Some of the people who were forced out of their homes because of tornado damage still haven’t been able to return.

“It's the little things you really miss,” said Kevin Thompson, who has been living in an apartment since his home was damaged. “It's not our stuff and it's not our way of life.”

The repairs on his home have been delayed twice, because of issues relating to insurance and contractors.

He’s hoping his family can move back home by Christmas.

Local contractors say the Township Of Essa has been stepping up to try to help them get the work done more quickly.

“They have fast tracked all of our permits,” said contractor Mike Mageean, who has been hired to fix some roofs before the snow starts to fall. “We can get a permit the same day, and they have also reduced the price of permits.”

Essa Township mayor Terry Dowdall says every home owner has had a different experience with their personal insurance company, and he’d like more information on what’s been holding things up.

“It would be nice to see a report or something to see how people were treated by their insurance companies,” said Dowdall.

“There are varying degrees of happiness with those companies.”

The municipality has $140,000 in a trust account to help residents with expenses that insurance companies won’t cover.
