21-year-old Sergio Morales says winning a seat as a city councillor for Barrie’s Ward 9 is a dream come true.

“Some people dream about playing in the NHL, some dream of playing in the World Series …I dreamt of public office,” he said.

Morales will serve as a councillor while continuing to work on finishing his economics degree.

He says his campaign focused heavily on social media while also knocking on a lot of doors in his ward.

He vowed he will listen to the residents of Ward 9, and will act as a voice for them.

Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman’s advice to Morales was “it’s a marathon, not a sprint…you can make a big difference over 4 years.”

Morales beat out veteran Brian Jackson for the position, and he’ll be the second youngest person ever to be elected to City Council.
