A 20-year-old Mississauga man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with an assault in Bradford earlier this month that claimed the life of a 56-year-old man.

The assault on September 12th left a Bradford man unconscious with a serious head injury. The man was walking home around 2:00 a.m. with his son from a bar in the area of Centre Street, when the assault happened.

The 23-year-old son suffered a broken arm and ligament damage. The father died in hospital on Thursday afternoon from the injuries he received in the assault.

On Friday the Mississauga man surrendered himself to South Simcoe Police. He was charged with manslaughter, assault with a weapon, and assault causing bodily harm.

He briefly appeared in a Newmarket court on Saturday morning and is scheduled to appear in a Barrie court on Monday morning.

Five other people from the Bradford, Newmarket and North York areas have been arrested and are charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

Police are still looking for witnesses to come forward with any information, no matter how insignificant.
