An 18-year-old Manitouwadge man was injured after an industrial accident just south of Barrie on Thursday morning.

It happened at a business on County Road 27 around 11:50 a.m.

Barrie Police say the man was apparently operating a cherry picker type machine to load wooden utility poles onto a truck when something malfunctioned and he ended up underneath two 1500lbs poles.

Nearby residents heard his screams and ran to help him. They were able to lift one pole off while the other pole was removed by a forklift.

He was taken to RVH with non-life threatening injures.

The Ministry of Labour is investigating.
