A Bala man has been charged after allegedly speeding through a construction zone on Highway 400.

According to OPP, a Jeep was travelling along a stretch of the highway that is under construction in Georgian Bay Township, when an officer clocked the vehicle travelling at 136 km/h.

Due to the highway being a construction zone, the speed limit was reduced to 80 km/h. The officer activated their lights and stopped the Jeep a short time later.

While investigating, police say they found a quantity of unmarked cigarettes.

The 37-year-old is charged with stunt driving, failing to surrender insurance and possession of unmarked cigarettes.

The accused will appear in a Penetanguishene court in October.
