Police say a man banned from driving for life asked his elderly mother to take the blame after a crash in Barrie.
Two vehicles collided in the area of Essa Road and Mapleton Avenue on Sunday afternoon. Officers spoke with one of the men involved and found out he was banned from driving for life because of past impaired driving convictions.
Investigators say the man called up his 77-year-old mother to come to the scene and tell police she was driving the vehicle when it crashed.
Police also allege that the man attempted to dissuade the other people involved from telling officers that he was driving.
The 48-year-old Innisfil man was arrested and charged with obstruct justice, breach of probation and careless driving.
He will appear before a court for a bail hearing on Monday.
